Elegant Legal Writing cover design released
Elegant Legal Writing's cover was designed by Matt Avery, who designed the Chicago Manual of Style (17th ed.)
Elegant Legal Writing remains on track for an early-2024 publication date. The University of California Press hired my preferred book designer, Matt Avery of Monograph. Avery designed the Chicago Manual of Style (17th ed.), one of the most beautiful books I own.
As the publication date approaches, I hope to begin posting writing tips to this blog more regularly. I have also begun brainstorming ideas for online mini-courses on topics such as making effective authority-based legal arguments and crafting varied sentences. And I’ve been gradually outlining ideas for a follow-up book that includes more in-depth treatments of legal reasoning, argumentation, and persuasion.
Ryan McCarl (LinkedIn) is the author of Elegant Legal Writing (forthcoming, U. Cal. Press 2024), a founding partner of litigation boutique Rushing McCarl LLP, and an adjunct legal writing professor at LMU Loyola Law School. For more writing tips, subscribe to the Elegant Legal Writing blog:
